* I’m off today to chaperone a field trip with my 7th graders. Yours truly gets to ride the bus into New Orleans with the buggers. Maybe we’ll break out singing “99 bottles of beer on the wall” (after all this is Louisiana LOL). We start at Cafe’ DuMond, head to the IMAX to see the dinosaur movie, then get to poke around the river front.

* Happy Passover! I decided on an Easter dinner this year with a Passover twist to mark the occasion.

Times: There are two flights scheduled for Friday, one will land at 2:20 pm and one will land at 2:50 pm. As you can see the flights are only 30 minutes apart.
What to bring: signs, flags, a folding chair if you plan on lounging while waiting for the aircraft.

Not making fun of dementia or Alzheimer’s. In fact, I’m dealing with dementia with my father (it sucks). Anyhoo, if I were a politician, I would automatically claim to be taking Aricept for memory problems. In fact, I would demand the prescribed it to me in case….well…in case a problem ever arises. If I were a politician in say, Louisiana, problems with my Aricept prescription would be a likely defense. Say for instance…

Freezer dilemma: What freezer? I don’t own a freezer. Oh…that freezer. What money? Oh, you see, sometimes I forget where I put stuff. My prescription of Aricept had run out and I was confused. You see, I was on the way to the bank and got confused and accidently put the money in the freezer instead.

Pebble Beach dilemma: What trip to Pebble Beach? Oh…I go there so much I forgot who I went with and who paid for it. Oh that airplane. Gosh, I forgot to pick up my Aricept on the way to the airport. I can’t even recall who I stayed with while we were there.

Hawaii dilemma: Which trip to Hawaii? You see, I go there so much I often forget completely about the trips and all the pictures we took are the only way I remember. As to where we stay and who paid…fugetaboutit! That trip paid for by an employee, as my fuzzy memory recollects, the line at the pharmacy was too long so I went without my prescription of Aricept.

Now I’m not a lawyer, nor do I play one on my radio show or my blog…but Aricept would be a fabulous defense.

Yesterday, I was invited to sample a complimentary buffet at Harrah’s in New Orleans. Not a “foodie” like many in attendance, I still ate and enjoyed. They recently lowered the price of their M-F lunch buffet to $9.99 – I can barely get out of Quiznos for that! Making the most of the invite, I ate my normal weekly caloric intake in one sitting. This buffet is not your typical as is nothing in New Orleans when it comes to food. Why? Because good dining opportunities are a dime a dozen here. The food was delish and constantly being kept up to meet the demands of the diners. Yes, they even had many local flavor dishes created by Chef Hoyce Oatis. Everyone was raving about the prime rib (I don’t do red meat or chicken), but the blackened catfish and crawfish potatoes were amazing as was everything I ate….and the desserts – yum! You can’t beat $9.99 with a stick to please all palates in your party. This will now be one of my recommendations to tourists who are looking for an inexpensive place to eat local flavor! My only complaint is that the rugmonsters can’t dine there (you have to be 21) grrrr….

By now you all know how in love I am with New Orleans and all it has to offer. Over the past 2 years, we’ve only spent one overnight in the French Quarter and this weekend hubby planned a second one. We stayed at the beautiful Ritz Carlton on Canal Street. They give a wonderful military discount Hooah! and are first class all the way! Lookie what was brought to my room (big awwwww)

Then we were off to Arnaud’s for dinner and drinks. Thanks to Mrs. Cocktail for helping me decide by text message what drinks I should request. She said to either get the French 75 or to trust anything Chris, a bartender she thinks very highly of, made for me. Chris decided to surprise me by whipping up a Brandy Smash (skipped wine and had 3 of them). Maybe that is why I am hungover…or is it all the Abita Ambers that followed? Hmmmmm

Hubby selected the room that had the Jazz trio playing and we faced Bourbon Street. Bonus…we also got to watch the Italian-American St. Joseph Parade go by in the rain.

Below is Shrimp Arnaud and Turtle Soup that hubby ordered and yours truly sampled. They were both magnificent but turtles are so cute and eating them makes me feel awful.

I ordered the Pontchartrain fish, which was red fish and the Souffle’ Potatoes. You bet – they were both mouthwatering!

Afterwards, we headed down Bourbon where the post-parade atmosphere was absolutely electric! We parked it atPat O’Briens for the night and met all types of wonderful people out having a wonderful time .

The picture below shows: my dirty shoes, garters placed on me by 2 different guys (1st guy spilled his drink down my leg), beads thrown from balconies or exchanged for kisses, lucky fava beans placed in my pocket by men. Not shown – bouquet of plastic flowers earned from kissing men left on the bar (on purpose) at Pat O’s. Yes, I was with my hubby the whole time – all innocent and traditional fun.

We are going to be talking about taxes and tea parties – live. There will also be a special bonus interview with director Jake Rademacher for a new movie opening this weekend Brothers at War. My review of the movie can be found here. Also, Brothers at War has partnered with Soldiers’ Angels.
