We tried the new Wine Loft Bar in Mandeville, LA on Saturday night. After visiting their website, now I realize it is a franchise. The beauty of this establishment is that it is in walking distance from our house – woot woot. But I had to wear my new stilettos – so walking was out. Upscale stores opened up in front of the apartments that were built across from our subdivision. We did not know about the apartments when we bought our house, but what is done is done now (Whine #1). The big bonus for us, is that my oldest can babysit now and this was the perfect distance to leave him in charge and not have to pay the extra $60 or so for a sitter – woot woot. So with that money saved, I decided to drink some decent Chardonnay $11 a glass (whine #2 and I felt it just a little bit today).

The atmosphere was very chic and certainly out of place for the New Orleans area. We plopped ourselves down on the velvet couches that had sheer curtains draped on either side. When our party arrived, we headed up the stairs to a larger seating area with some couches and funky stools. The music was not what I would have chosen and was actually a little loud for this type of place (gosh I sound like a . We arrived about 9:30 and left about 1:00. This place was packed with a wide variety of people from couples to groups to singles. They offer a full service bar and have a small appetizer menu to choose from. A cool place to just hang and the service was very good – though got a little slower as the place got more crowded.

Oh you want my real whine? Today was non-stop housecleaning! Yuck and a big whine!!!

What is truly sad is that this is the 5th Police Officer to lose his job with the name “Eddie Price” tied to their loss. Are we all forgetting about the 4 cops from the “Causeway incident” that are also without jobs in 2009?

The City Council is spineless when it comes to the Mayor and used Buell as a scapegoat to take some of the heat off. Unfortunately, it has worked. They will never take a vote of “no confidence” for Mayor Price nor will they put their names on a petition to recall him (which they can do as tax-paying citizens).

How quickly people want to look the other way and forget the real problem in Mandeville – the corruption and entitlement way of doing business.”Business as usual” is not OK.

I anxiously await for the legal system to expose the rest of the corruption and hope that all parties involved are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. There can’t be 2 sets of laws in the world.

Mandeville is a wonderful place to live.

This can’t be real and it can’t happen in my Parish!!! Hatred is such a waste of energy. I am still in shock after learning that the co-chair of the Mandeville recall petition’s house is under investigation for arson after a weekend house fire – now this. OMG! I want fluffy bunnies and pretty rainbows to dominate my thoughts.

I need to put on my tiara and think more positive thoughts! Please send me your positive vibes and I’ll send you mine. Maybe together we can squash out all the nasty stuff!

As you all know, I have been working on the recall petition for the Mayor of Mandeville, Eddie Price, it is not a secret. This Sunday I returned from a DC, 4 day Soldiers’ Angels trip. On the way home, I decided to tell the group that from this day on, that 100% of my efforts would focus on supporting the troops, instead of recalling the Mayor. I released a statement Sunday evening on my blog about this.

Rodney Boudreaux left me a message on my phone this weekend, but I was focused on Angeling and regrettably ignored the call. It was deeply disturbing to learn today that Rodney’s house had a fire this past Saturday that was under investigation for arson. This is just awful – horrible – disturbing. There are so many emotions running through my head that I am finding it difficult to write this post.

Thank goodness Rodney was not home and that no firefighters or neighbors were injured. At this time, I ask you say a prayer for Rodney, a guy with a heart of gold.

Please call the Mandeville Police Department if you have any tips related to the fire. 624-3119

I think we should just assume everything in the City of Mandeville is fine and that we are in good hands (rolling eyes). I’m not sure how these committees form, but something about the 2 degrees of separation from Eddie Price of most the committee members makes me a bit hesitant to do a happy dance. Also, not sure why (dripping sarcasm), but seeing someone who was listed as having possibly done something unethical in the State Audit, sitting on the ethics committee, is as sensible as wearing brown shoes with a black dress!

Love this comment from the article:

Posted by onlyinla on 10/24/08 at 8:16PM
Since when do the people under investigation/indictment get to appoint an ethics committee or board to oversee themselves? I really believed the people in Mandeville were more intellegent than this.

And for the record, I spoke to Carla Buchholz, my Councilwoman and asked her a question on Wednesday. I wanted to know if there was anything in the local charter preventing any City Council members from signing the recall petition. She said she would contact David Cressy (our City Attorney) and get back to me. See the surprised look on my face that I do not have an answer? I think we know that the obvious answer is that they should be able to sign it and they would not do it – right? I certainly hope they prove me wrong.

I guess I should stop being surprised by anything in Louisiana politics – right? Hey – you can have 16 indictments, a future of court appearances and be the favored candidate.

Bobby Jindal and ethics reform….take me away!

Oh puhleeze – give me a freaking break. Tonight I was standing with the wonderful group of people with The Concerned Citizens of Mandeville (the recall group). We were on the porch of City Hall – in the dark (as the lights weren’t turned on for us until the end) collecting some signatures. A man asked me how many signatures we had and I told him about 1/4 of what we need, but we were only 2 months into this and had 4 months to go. Then he gave me that look and asked me, “Why do you want to recall the Mayor.” It is not this camper’s first time to the rodeo with people who want to debate me on an issue. I know the difference between someone who wants to debate and discuss and someone who is looking for trouble. I said, “I’m not going to debate you.” This angered him even more. The chair stepped in and gave a brilliant mission statement and this guy went nuts (I think his wife wanted to crawl under a bench). He said, “Look at all the good things Eddie has done for this City.”

I’m sure he did some great things, he’s been in office long enough that he should have. But the proverbial “cat is out of the bag,” we now know how he did all these things and it is WRONG!!! This guy started spewing off his war record and his resume (which is always a bizarre way to prove your point). Then the police pulled him in the building. Amazing that people are so intimidated by a group of determined citizens.

Who will help make this recall petition successful?

I currently feel that the majority of citizens of Mandeville would sign the recall petition if it was handed to them while they lay in bed. In my honest opinion, those that will not sign, have had some type of personal or business dealing with him that makes them scared that if he stays in office and finds out they signed, will come back to haunt them somehow. It is called standing up for what you believe and doing what is right. This is not personal, never has been, never will be. This is about doing the right thing.

As you know, I have been spending a ton of time working on the petition to recall the Mayor of Mandeville, Eddie Price. Time away from helping soldiers or doing things for m family. I feel strongly about his needing to leave office for many reasons. Mainly, because I am trying to teach my children how honesty and integrity are so important. If their local leader doesn’t meet up to a minimum moral example for them, how can I, knowing I have the power to change things, let that go on? I don’t think I need to re-hash all the things he has done that have shamed the City of Mandeville.

You can go on and on and remind me of all the good things he has accomplished before I lived here. You can tell me what a great guy he is, or that he has a wonderful family…that doesn’t matter. What matters to me, is that he has violated my trust and shown the world that he believes there are two sets of laws in this beautiful city that I am proud to call my forever home. We must all, politicians and every day citizens, abide by the same code of ethics and laws in society.

I have stood up proudly and without hesitation, to fight this small local political fight. I do not want to give up or step away from it now. However, like the “Little Red Hen” childhood story goes, we can’t all look to the next person to do all the work. The citizens of Mandeville need to take a stand and unify and offer their time and efforts if this recall effort is to be a success.

Who will help make this recall petition successful?

If you want to get involved and step up – now is the time.
