My puppy bubble has officially been burst, since this “catastrophy” of Port Marigny encroached on my life.
If you’ve read any of my posts before, or even know me in real life, I have a puppy personality. In other words, I like mostly everyone I meet, unless that “6th sense” magically kicks in. You know that sense, the one you can’t explain that either hits your gut or makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Take my dog Lola for example, she wags her tail at everyone. If you are house guest, more than likely she will end up in your lap at some point. I have seen her snarl at a few people and hey – that is her 6th sense kicking in.
I’ll take you back to the first Port Marigny
Charade Charette in April of 2015. I went into it like a puppy, excited for a new potential hangout I could walk to from my new home. I met a couple of people from the PM team that night and right away that 6th sense kicked in. I looked over to my “antithesis of puppy” husband for his confirmation, and he too felt something was wrong. And so began the charade of Port Marigny.
Fast forward to a Planning & Zoning meeting on January 18 of 2017. Having attended almost every single meeting since April of 2015, my puppiness has exited the room for everything PM related and been replaced with my 6th sense of distrust. When you connect the dots of all the key players (applicants, hired guns, some elected and appointed city reps) who want PM so badly, they have lost all objectivity, it quickly becomes a blacked out hot mess. Nobody is independently thinking, besides ALMOST ALL the citizens of Mandeville, who are outraged and oppose this potential disaster!!!
It has boiled down to 2 sides of the room at all meetings. The brides side of the room (left), with a few trickled on the groom’s side by error. These are traditionally the opponents or at least those not tainted and trying to figure this mess out. On the groom’s side (right) sit the first few rows of the applicants, flanked by their cheerleaders (many that your tax dollars are paying for). I tend to not have the warm fuzzies towards the majority of the right side of the room and I’m pretty sure that Lola would not venture over there!
You are entitled to my opinion…so thanks for reading. During this final stretch…we need to fill the bride’s side of the room.
Let your voices be heard to the City Council – before it is too late!
