Don’t tell me about it….I’m so excited to go and it is better if I go not knowing anything about it. I was thinking of creative places to take the kids tomorrow (5 boys & 1 girl – 3 boys are visiting) -something not too expensive and not too far away. I remembered during my first visit to the Inside Northsideoffice, getting the grand tour of all the art work that has graced the past and present covers. The current issue has a picture of the UCM Museum in Abita Springs, done by local artist Gretchen Armbruster. I was told that it looks exactly like the picture and I should definitely take the kids there. They are sooooo excited after I showed them the picture of the stuffed “dogigator” on the website. I printed off 7 – $1 off the price of admission coupons – which is only $3 and we will head there first thing in the morning – it opens at 10! If you are looking for off-beat things to do check out Roadside Tourist. I will have to avoid looking at the Abita brewery or I will get the sudden urge to go in and pound a few in the afternoon!
update: if you would like to contact Gretchen, her e-mail is garmbruster1060 at yahoo dot com (remove spambuster stuff first)

  1. Greta – Can’t wait to hear how you liked the museum! When my son was little (around three or four) we used to go about three times a week. He couldn’t get enough of that place! My daughters just thought he was weird – they got over it by about the second visit, but for some reason Larry was enthralled. He could stand for hours staring at those miniature displays. Did you get to meet John Preble, the curator? Not your typical museum curator, huh??!!
